Documentary My School – My Chance, is produced by CARE within the project Roma Girls Education Initiative, funded by Telethon CARE Norway and Austrian Development Agency. The Project is implementing in Serbia by CARE Serbia and the partner NGO Novi Sad Humanitarian Center. Film is recorded as omnibus of three short movies showing the issues of Roma girls education from the perspective of Roma parents, education institutions and successful Roma girls who are attending school and serving as role models for future generations.
CARE International is an international humanitarian organization which implements activities in more than 70 countries all over the world - East Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa. CARE mission is support to the poorest individuals, families and communities.
Partner organizations and CARE organized Regional Youth Leadership Camp which was held in Camp “Veli Joze” in Savudrija, Croatia, in the period July 22-28 2012. Camp was organized for 45 young men, members of BE A MEN clubs from Belgrade, Velika Plana, Novi Pazar, Blace, Banja Luka, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Mostar, Kosovska Mitrovica and Pristina. At this camp participants had opportunity to gain knowledge about leadership and improve their leadership skills throughout educational workshops and teambuilding games which were led by partner organization`s staff. Furthermore, participants had a chance to visit Pula and Brijuni Island, enjoying free time, learning about each other and bonding with their peers from the whole region.
CARE Serbia continues its activities for the economic empowerment of the Roma population, with an emphasis on women. In the first year of the Empowerment and Integration of Roma in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina Project, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, around 700 beneficiaries were included directly and approximately 2,200 Roma women and men, members of other local population, representatives of public and government institutions on local and central level, indirectly.
So far, 95 Roma women and men over the age of 17 years completed primary school and 40 were enrolled in and completed the second / third / fourth level of high school or vocational training. More than 100 Roma women and men participated in the project business trainings and received certification after successfully passing of the final test. Fifty of them received a grant to start or expand their own business.
